It is a matter of earlier times that Ikshvaku was the king of Ayodhya. King Ikshvaku is considered the originator of Suryavansh. King Ikshvaku had done very difficult penance of Bhagwati Jagadamba for the growth of dynasty. Devarshi Narada was the preacher of King Ikshvaku. Narada ji initiated the king to chant the mantra of Bhagwati Jagadamba. Ikshvaku had 100 sons, to 50 of them he handed over the right to the north country and the remaining 48 sons to the south country. The rest of his two sons started living with him to serve him.
Ikshvaku’s son was Vikukshi, the same Vikukshi became known as Shashad. After the death of King Ikshvaku, the kingdom of Ayodhya was handed over to Prince Shashad. This king Shashad performed many yagyas on the banks of river Saryu. Shashad’s son’s name was Kukutsya, Kukutsya was the supreme worshiper of Bhagwati Jagadamba. Kukutsya used to spend a lot of his time in the worship of Jagadamba. After the death of Maharaja Shashad, the kingdom of Ayodhya came into the hands of Kukutsya. Kukutsya ruled his father and grandfather’s kingdom with force.
It was at this time that a great war took place between the gods and the demons. In that war, all the gods were defeated by the demons and the gods were thrown out of heaven. Then all the gods went to Lord Vishnu to ask for help. At that time Lord Vishnu was sleeping on Shesha’s bed. Seeing the gods coming to him, Lord Vishnu asked, Gods why you have come here. Hearing Vishnu ji, the deities said, Lord, nothing is hidden from you in this world. The demons have defeated us in battle. For this reason, we have come to you to ask for help. Now you help us regain our lost kingdom from these demons.
Hearing the words of the gods, Lord Vishnu smiled and started saying, Gods you guys should try to make Kukutsya, the king of Ayodhya your friend. King Kukutsya is the son of Shashad, by the grace of Bhagwati Jagadamba, he has incredible power. He is the ultimate devotee of Adi Shakti Jagadamba, king of Ayodhya Kukutsya is a very godly man. That’s why they will help you defeat the demons. You people go to him now and befriend him and seek his help. After receiving the orders of lord vishnu all the gods reached Ayodhya.
Seeing the gods approaching him, King Kukutsya welcomed them all with great care. The king respectfully asked all the gods the reason for their arrival. The king said, “Gods, I am blessed today. I consider my life successful, because you all gave your rare vision.” Now, all of you please tell me about my duty, task which is considered rare for ordinary people, by the grace of Bhagwati Jagadamba, it is very easy for me. Therefore, please tell me whatever your work is. On the strength of the power given by Bhagwati Jagadamba, I will definitely complete it.
On hearing this statement of King Ayodhya King Kuktsya, all the gods became very happy and started saying that we fought a great battle with demons. In which the demons have defeated us. We went to Lord Vishnu for help, then Lord Narayana sent us to you. He has said that by the grace of Bhagwati Jagadamba you have incredible power and you can defeat the demons and bring us back our kingdom. That’s why you fight with the demons and get us back our kingdom, this is our request to you at this time.
Hearing the words of the gods, King Kukutsya said, Gods, I will surely help you. At this moment, I will go with you to fight the demons, but to get success, Devraj Indra will have to become my vehicle. Hearing the words of Kukutsya, all the gods started to say to Indra, Devraj there is no reason to hesitate, you should be ready to become the vehicle of this Maharaj Kukutsya to defeat the demons. At first Devaraja was ashamed, but later, with the inspiration of Lord Vishnu, Indra agreed to become the ride of Kukutsya.
Devraj Indra took the form of a Bull at that moment. In the form of Rishabh, Devraj Indra looked as if Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva. At the same time Maharaj Kukutsya rode upon him, seeing Devaraja transformer as a bull . This Maharaj got the name Kukutsya due to sitting on Kukud (Back ) of bull and he was called Indravah in the world because of Indra, the king of the gods, became his vehicle. At the same time, King muskurahat went to fight demons.
After that there was a fierce battle again between the gods and the demons. In that battle, King Kukutsya helped the gods to defeat the demons with great might. All this was the result of the influence of the incomparable power of Bhagwati Jagadamba. The gods were very happy after defeating the demons. All the gods started praising Maharaj Kukutsya and seeing his immense reverence for Bhagwati Jagadamba, they also bowed down before him. Maharaja Kukutsya received the title of Puranjaya due to the defeat of the demons.
In this way, King Kukutsya of ayodhya made Devraj Indra his vehicle in defeating the demons. That is why his name was Indravah and he was also called Puranjaya. Maharaj Puranjaya was able to do these tasks only due to the influence of the incomparable power provided by Bhagwati Jagadamba.
